Happy birthday to the incredible Ella Fitzgerald who would have been 104 years old today. The Queen of Jazz achieved a great deal in her life, including being the first African American to win a Grammy in 1958 for Best Female Vocal Performance for The Irving Berlin Songbook and Best Individual Jazz Performance for The Duke Ellington Songbook.

Some kids in Italy call me ‘Mama Jazz; I thought that was so cute. As long as they don’t call me ‘Grandma Jazz.

From humble beginnings and a tough life as a young child, she soon became one of the greatest singers of all time and by the age of 21, she had recorded her debut album, which sold a million copies, hit number one and stayed on the pop chart for an impressive 17 weeks.

It isn’t where you came from, it’s where you’re going that counts.

In a career of nearly 60 years, Ella will go down in history as a true legend, winning a total of 14 Grammy Awards, the National Medal of Arts and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong.
