Soundtracks have such a huge impact on us. They forge memories with loved ones as we watch iconic and unforgettable films. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve watched a film with a great soundtrack and instantly felt empowered to be able to do anything. I remember as a kid watching Disney’s The Little Mermaid, and as I drove my parents mad by singing Part of Your World non stop, I knew there and then that music would end up being a huge part of my life.
The feeling when a film that has an inspiring soundtrack is overwhelming and is like a perfect storm of emotions that hits you in the middle of your heart and stays with you forever. Songs have such a beautiful way of demonstrating exactly what you’re feeling and when a song resonates with you perfectly, it’s indescribable.
I’d love to hear what your favourite soundtracks of all time are. I’ve listed my top 5 below.
Enjoy and stay musical.
The Fighting Temptations
This, in my opinion, is one of the most underrated films ever made. With a cast including Beyoncé, Cuba Gooding Jr, Steve Harvey and The O’Jays, it is such a warm and uplifting film with an equally inspiring soundtrack. You cannot help but feel overjoyed, elated and inspired after watching and listening.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 1 and 2
Both of these films are in my top 10 of all time and the soundtracks make the films even better. I’d love to have a conversation with Tyler Bates about music as we seem to love the same artists. I was especially over the moon to see Sam Cooke on the soundtrack on Vol 2 (my favourite artist of all time). A must listen!
The Three Fugitives
Whilst the film hasn’t received the best reviews, for me, the intro to this soundtrack is one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. I remember watching it at a young age and I was completely mesmerised by the beauty of the saxophone, an instrument I have been in love with ever since. Even for those of you who don’t fancy watching it, I beg of you, please, please listen to the film’s opening song (but be patient, it takes 1 minute and 9 seconds for the beauty of the saxophone to reveal itself!).
Dirty Dancing
It may sound like a cliché, but every single song on this soundtrack is a piece of art. I remember watching this movie as a kid and just falling in love with Otis Redding. I’ll assume most of you will have seen the film or heard the soundtrack as it is a classic, but if not, give it a listen!
The Bodyguard
A classic film with Whitney Houston’s inimitable vocals that just make you want to listen to it on repeat.
