I thought my blog theme for today should focus on one of my favourite singers of all time: Tiziano Ferro.
For those who have never heard of him, he is an Italian singer who has sold over 15 million records. He has sung duets with Kelly Rowland, John Legend and Mary J Blige, to name only a few.
Tiziano predominantly sings in Italian, but also releases Spanish versions of his Italian albums and has released songs in English too.
I have been a fan of his since 2004. I remember the very first time I heard Tiziano sing. I was watching the film ‘Tre Metri Sopra Il Cielo’ and a song started playing. I instantly sat up in my chair and knew as soon as the film was over, I’d have to search who this singer was and buy this song straight away.
The song was called ‘Sere Nere’ and that was the first time I heard the name Tiziano Ferro. I went and bought his album Centoundici (111) and have been grateful for his beautiful voice and songs ever since.
I was overjoyed when I heard that there was going to be a documentary on Amazon Prime (entitled Ferro) about his life and I have added it to my watchlist (next week’s blog will be my review after I watch it this week).
As someone who grew up speaking both Italian and English, Italian songs mean as much to me as English ones and I have always had an Italian musical influence in my life. From my nonno who introduced me to Enzo e Terry and I Girasoli, (I repaid him by introducing him to the wonderful Eros Ramazzotti) to my nonna and mum who sang me Italian nursery rhymes, I am so grateful to them for opening up the world of music to me.
I was due to see Tiziano at the Hammersmith Apollo on 2 December this year, but understandably, it’s been cancelled. I just hope that when the world is back to normal, I can finally tick Tiziano off my concert bucket list!
I have created a playlist of what my favourite Tiziano Ferro songs are on my playlist tab. Have a listen, even if you can’t understand all the lyrics, I guarantee you’ll be tapping your feet to the rhythm! I’ve included some of the English versions of his songs here too.
Enjoy and stay musical.
